STORY WINERY Chenin Bolanc 2004 Bruce & Jan Tichenor realized a dream when they retired from a Pharmacy practice in the Bay Area; to own and operate a small winery in the Shenandoah Valley nestled within Amador County. While visiting Amador County recently I visited Story Winery and discovered this jewel. One of the varietals I preferred and want to share with you is the Estate bottled 2004 Chenin Blanc. At first glance this wine is bright and translucent. On the nose this wine offers a wonderful balance of oak and grapefruit with under tones of citrus fruit. This is a dry white wine consistent with what you would expect from a Chenin Blanc but it surprised me with a low acid level and long finish. I recommend this wine be served at approximately fifty-eight degrees and served with appetizers, salads, cheeses or a subtle white fish. This wine is value priced at $13.00. I encourage you to visit Story Winery at 10525 Bell Road, Plymouth, CA 95669. 1-800-713-6390 or contact at StoryZin@Zin.com. |
WINE TREE FARM SyrGreMour 2005 During my outing in Amador County I discovered a wine located in a quaint wine bar located in the cellar of the Miner’s Pick Antique Store in Amador City, just around the corner from the Imperial Hotel. I met Corinne Moore proprietor of this lovely warm and welcoming Wine Cellar. Corinne was friendly and accommodating offering seven or eight difficult to locate Amador County wines. One wine I especially enjoyed is the Wine Tree Farm, SyrGreMour- 2005. This is a Rhone varietal with a smooth mouth feel which shows off the blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourverdre. This wine displays a rich dark ruby color and is followed by an exquisite aroma of smoky chocolate, berries and vanilla. Long legs flowing down the glass indicate a robust balance of fruit and alcohol. This is a wonderfully priced wine at $18.00 a bottle. Please visit this quaint cellar located at 14207 State Hwy. 49, Amador City, CA 95601. 209-267-0104 or at www.AmadorCountyWineCellar.com. |
C.G. DI ARIE Zinfandel 2006 (Southern Exposure) In 2000, Chaim and Elisheva purchased a 209-acre parcel of uncultivated land between the south and middle forks of the Cosumnes River in the Shenandoah Valley of the Sierra Foothills. “Southern Exposure” is a designation for some of their best wines. Only 980 cases of this varietal were bottled. Located on a southeast-facing hillside at an elevation of 1,600 feet, the zinfandel grows on its own roots. The major part of the grapes for this Zinfandel came from the original Grand Pere Vineyard which is more than 100-years old. This wine provides layers of light to dark garnet in the glass and exposes an explosion of seductive black berries and layers of spice on the nose. Finishes with rich chocolate which stay with you long after you finish tasting this wine. This wine is moderately priced at $35.00 C. G. Di Arie Vineyard Tasting Room, 19919 Shenandoah School Rd. Plymouth, CA 95669
