2006 has been a year filled with mixed emotions. My golf game remained consistent despite a nagging knee injury. I lost two of my childhood heroes; Bryon Nelson and Patty Berg, not to mention Arnold Palmer's announcement that he is retiring from competitive golf. Tiger Woods is now golf's icon, along with my favorite Anika Sorenstam of the LPGA. The game is in good stead and its future is bright!
Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort
In June 2006, Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort celebrated its 10th anniversary and we are eager to see what the next ten years will bring! Mother Nature and original course designer Don Boos teamed up with Robert Trent Jones II to create one of California's premier golf resorts. Public and private members alike receive the amenities and services expected at a first class facility. It is a classic parkland course with a California golden touch. The course stretches 6,749 yards from the back tees. The rates are reasonable and include GPS cart and green fees. Don't forget to look for the famous Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.
Rancho Murieta Country Club
Rancho Murieta has grown into the area's premier country club. It is not only a great golf facility, offering two of the finest courses in California, it is also a community which offers country living among redwoods, oaks and pines. Summer concerts under the stars, Little League ball parks, tennis courts, and lakes stocked with fish are a part of everyday life. The infamous North Course stretches 6,839 yards and the South Course plays to 6,866 yards. Incredibly, Golf memberships start at just $5,000 and $249 a month. So when you get the opportunity, play Rancho Murieta Country Club and create some memories!

So I decided to reflect on the wonderful courses I have had the opportunity to play and write about over the past year! Just a little reminder to my readers about the beauty of the Northern California courses we are fortunate enough to tread as we play the greatest game God ever invented. So sit back, pour a glass of your favorite wine, and allow me to take you on the journey I was fortunate enough to take.
Highway 4 in Calaveras County is one of the most scenic drives in the state and was recently designated a National Scenic Byway. Fortunately for Northern California Golfers, Highway 4 leads directly to Sequoia Woods Country Club. Entering the well-appointed grounds to the private club is a pleasure. The 14,000 square foot clubhouse, two tennis courts and the crystal clear swimming pool overlooking the 11th hole immediately greet you. This beautiful mountain course plays to 5,600 yards over lush fairways, quick undulating greens, deep blue lakes and sandy white bunkers. Golf memberships are available and well worth the fees. Play Sequoia Woods Country Club and find friends and Golf for a lifetime!
With the advent of large corporations building championship courses, surrounded by multi-million dollar homes, Forest Lake Golf Course is a refreshing vestige of old style course design and play. The course plays to 4,925 yards on the blue course and 3,700 yards on the red course. The red is played on Mondays and Tuesdays only. Forest Lake is adorned with tree-lined fairways demanding accuracy with every shot. The facility is family oriented and encourages female and senior play. Green fees are very reasonable and electric carts available. The course can be easily walked if you are in need of the exercise. So have a good time and bring the family. |

Lockeford Springs Golf Club
Entering its second decade of outstanding public service Lockeford Springs has experienced tremendous changes. I have been playing the course since 1995 and since then it has matured into one of the finest championship style courses in Northern California. The guest at Lockeford Springs will find a warm, friendly atmosphere. To further your golfing pleasure the facility boasts a fleet of 76 electric carts which features computer assisted scoring and GPS yardage. The practice facilities are the most complete and finest in the area. Green fees range from $20.00 to $45.00 on weekdays to $20.00 to $60.00 on weekends. So go have some fun and visit Lockeford Springs Golf Club. I am looking forward to next year with great anticipation. Hopefully my knee will improve and the Golf Gods will smile down upon us all! Have a wonderful Holiday Season! See ya next year! Hit the ball. Go find it and hit it again. Play Golf! |

Sequoia Woods Country Club
Forest Lake Golf Course
Located North of Interstate 80 in the historic town of Auburn, Dark Horse Golf Course is one of the most unique courses built in the Gold Country in decades. Nestled within the Nevada Foothills of Placer County, Dark Horse was once a 1,100-acre cattle ranch dominated by dramatic elevation changes, stately pines, and regal oaks. Green fees are reasonable for the 7,203 yards of pure golf you will experience. Rates include green and cart fees. The carts are GPS assisted. Exceed your expectations and play Dark Horse Golf Course.
