One evening not so long ago, my wife and I journeyed to the lovely town of Sutter Creek, in Amador County. It was here that we returned to a friendly B & B that we had visited some years ago. The B & B that I speak of is the wonderful Hanford House.
On this particular excursion we were in the area
doing some business and we cautiously watched the skies as we had heard that
a storm front was descending upon the area. It appeared we might soon experience
the first major storm of the year, yet we knew that upon arrival at the Hanford
House we would be as the saying goes: “snug as a bug in a rug.”
We looked forward to our arrival with great anticipation.
Soon we arrived at the Inn, and made our way into the parking area. Immediately
were struck with the attractive
classic
look of the alluring red brick surrounding the Inn.
When we exited the vehicle and walked toward the entry we delighted in the wrap-around
porch that featured planter boxes with beautiful flowers and an American flag
gently swaying in the breeze.
Upon entry Bob Tierno greeted us. Bob explained that he and his lovely wife
Karen are the proud proprietor’s of this establishment and have worked
tirelessly at creating their B & B to warm the soul of the weary traveler.
Bob immediately was good to his word as he made us feel welcome, generating
that secure feeling that surfaces when a close friend or relative that welcomes
you with open arms.
Bob escorted us on a tour of the facilities and invited us to help ourselves
day or night to the refreshments and munchies made available in the pantry located
just off of the kitchen. The parlor is a comfortable area that offers antique
tables, comfortable sofas and floral accents. Adjacent to the parlor is the
dining area where you can look forward to the gourmet breakfast that is served
every morning. Breakfast consists of a variety of fruits, cereals, muffins,
hot dishes including soufflés or frittatas and side dishes, fresh fruit
smoothies, coffee and teas. This delectable meal is served up with a pleasing
presentation and a smile. This breakfast is much more than might be expected
of a B & B.
Next,
it was onward up the stairway that led to our suite (The Gold Country Escape)
where we settled into the comfortable surroundings, tasteful appointments and
unique amenities. This room offered a soothing sensation from the moment we
entered. Decorated with an astral harmony of pale peach walls, 12-foot high
ceilings, creamy Berber carpet and a bronze and pewter four-poster bed that
expressed the quintessential essence of relaxation. My wife could hardly contain
her elation. Other enhancements in the room are a Jacuzzi bath, dual vanity
in the bathroom and a private sun deck.
The personalized touch manifested here is greatly apparent and is exemplified
by attention to personal detail, like the small silver tray containing two wondrous
chocolate truffles and a mint stick that beckoned as we entered the room. Other
conveniences include, plush white monogrammed bathrobes, CD player, fireplace,
custom herbal soaps and a small electronic device that provides the weary traveler
with a number of natures relaxing sounds, that leave you to melt into the experience.
Also, if you’re seeking romance be persuasive by ordering up rose petals,
laid gently on the bed accompanied by a bottle of champagne and top it off with
an in room massage. This is sure to melt the heart of your loved one!
This personalized touch I have spoken of began even before Bob and Karen purchased
the Hanford House in February of 1995. The entry into the B & B industry
was contingent on locating just the right property that could effectively serve
as a get-a-way for romance and relaxation, but also attract corporate meetings
or staff retreats. For those of you visiting that still need to get some work
done dual port modems are available in each room and if you are without computer
one is available. The Tierno’s with their corporate backgrounds understand
the need to provide a place full of ambience and modern amenities and have done
just that.
Hanford House features 9 spacious rooms in the 6,200 square foot inn, each of
which contain antiques that capture
the character of California’s historic gold rush days. The nine individually
decorated room’s feature private baths, fireplaces, guest pantry and the
gourmet breakfast. Room prices generally range from $110 to $225 on weekends,
with discounts Sunday through Thursday, excluding holidays. In each room you
will find a diary and a “Secret Box” that is provided for guest
to share their experience, it is within one of these that I found this heart-felt
vernacular. “This was the most perfect way to relax and get-a-way from
the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I feel like I have died and gone to
heaven after experiencing all the comforts of this room. What a way to go! Thank
you from the bottom of my heart.” This guest certainly summed up the feeling
shared by many others and you too can experience all nine rooms and feel a different
exhilaration with each one.
There is much to see and do in and around Sutter Creek. Experience award-wining
wineries, golfing, shopping, historical landmarks, or tour a gold mine that
is nearby. If you are hungry there are many fine restaurants to choose from
and the folks at the Inn will be happy to fulfill your every need.
Bob and Karen have truly sculptured a Bed and Breakfast Inn that delights the
senses and truly lives up to their saying “Rest, Relax and Recharge at
the Hanford House. For additional information please visit their web site at
