Cameron Park Country Club is the defining essence of a family atmosphere mixed with the pleasure of fine country club living.
In the fifties Larry and Ruth Cameron once owned the land that is now Cameron Park. They eventually purchased a beautiful valley called the Wallace Ranch, which is now Cameron Park Country Club. In 1958, Larry commissioned Mr. Bert Stamps to build the course. Bert has designed over 100 courses worldwide. Some of his designs include Rancho Murieta’s “North Course” and the “Lake Course” of Woodbridge Country Club in Lodi. Bert was our neighbor at Rancho Murieta and a wonderful man. I have fond memories of Bert and Dad telling jokes, while enjoying “a few” on the patio. Bert passed away a few years ago and he is really missed. In my opinion, he was one of the premier course designers in the world. To this day, he hasn’t received the recognition he deserves.
Cameron Park has evolved into one of the finest private clubs in Northern California. The par 72 course is a challenge to both the novice and professional. It is abundant with cold clear streams, quick sloping greens, and narrow fairways. The course stretches to 6351 yards from the tips and every yard is a challenge. I have always enjoyed playing Cameron Park Country Club. The course makes you feel at home. It welcomes you there, to enjoy every well played shot, and every beautiful fairway and green.
The 17,000 square foot clubhouse greets you as you enter the old Wallace property. It was completely remodeled in 1993. The upstairs lounge and main dining area feature an elevated view of the course below. The mens’ and ladies’ locker rooms are located downstairs. The members also enjoy a card room, club storage facilities, a grillroom and a lounge with a full service bar. The food that the members enjoy is spectacular! The chef, Mr. James Schanel is extremely talented. In 2002, he received the “Culinarian of the Year” award bestowed by the Sacramento Capitol Chef Association Chapter of the American Culinary Federation.
Two weeks ago, I had an opportunity to sit down with Mr. Mike Fleig, general manager at Cameron Park Country Club. I was impressed with Mike’s professionalism and love for golf. Mike started his country club career as a dishwasher and, over the years, has transitioned to management. At Cameron Park, he has put his whole heart and soul into the Club and the results are magnificent.
Mike explained that they are in the process of renovating the bunkers. The course is receiving a $2,000,000 beauty treatment that prohibited us from playing holes #9 and #18. The construction already in progress and shows great promise.
Golf Architect, Dick Bailey who is accustomed to creating masterpieces such as The Golf Club at White Hawk Ranch, is enhancing his reputation with his work here. I look forward to returning when renovation is complete.
Mike talked at great length about the options
in memberships, starting with
the Proprietary Membership. “This membership entitles the member to full
use of the facilities. The club provides year-round golfing on the championship
course, a golf practice range, a pro shop that is stocked with quality golf
accessories, tennis courts and a pool. We offer youth activities, bridge games,
fine dining, a lounge and a bar. This is combined with an incredible staff dedicated
to providing a quality experience and a million dollar park-like view. Members
can expect an environment that challenges their skills and a place where they
can relax and unwind.”
So if you want the enjoyment of a family atmosphere, mixed with the pleasure of fine country club living, please consider Cameron Park Country Club where rolling hills, majestic oaks, and meandering streams are the backdrop for everyday life.
