Wine isn’t the only destination point it seems in Amador County. People who have a hankering for famous BBQ travel from all points just to satisfy their desire. The destination they seek is the Incahoots restaurant! As you enter the doorway of the world renowned Shenandoah Valley Wine Region take Main Street into old town Plymouth and you can’t help but notice a mustard colored building that definitely stands out amongst the historic surroundings. The smells alone emanating from within the restaurant will entice you to enter this unique establishment. As your taste buds dance with anticipation so will your eyes as they move about the interior. Mounted heads of deer, bighorn sheep and boar adorn the walls, rusted farm implements, antiques bottles, stone arrowheads and an old saddle that perhaps was used by a young vaquero. The menu hosts an array of items from appetizers to soups, sandwiches cold or hot off the grill and entrees all with a Spanish influence. For those who still want to remain in everyday California you can simply order a pizza, but not just your ordinary pizza, remember you’re at Incahoots. This also applies to the many sandwiches with names like Feed Lot a tri-tip with BBQ sauce & salsa, the Heeler barbeque pork (Carnitas), Slack Time a chicken breast or an Indian Creek Special that offers a beer battered cod filet. For the little ones there is the Pig in a Poke, a grilled cheese & ham and the Bull Dogger, a larger all beef hot dog. You can’t help but notice the diversity
of the menu; it’s not just more it’s much more than a BBQ
house of ribs, chicken and tri-tip! There is authentic Mexican meals, “Mexican food is my own love, and I wanted to serve dishes that are truly authentic”, states owner Tom Krumbholz owner of Incahoots. Tom employs two women who hail from Michoacan Mexico that prepare authentic dishes from scratch each day. The building was a pizza parlor before Tom began renovations in 1999. Tom decided to keep the pizza oven to offer additional choices to his customers. He quickly learned dough and sauce recipes passed on to him from a well skilled individual and then created his own unique style of making pizzas. Oh yes, the BBQ! Incahoots offers two styles of BBQ, Santa Maria-Style Oak Pit BBQ and Ranch Style Pit Dinners. The Santa Maria Style is prepared & seasoned the way the early California Vaqueros had along the central coast. Relocating his business to Santa Maria in the early 70’s Tom authored up his own style becoming the afore-mentioned Santa Maria Style. This style includes special seasonings that Tom has developed over the years containing 14 ingredients that are dry rubbed into the meat and cooked over an open pit using oak wood resulting in a most flavorful BBQ. The Ranch Style Pit Dinners include a choice of salads, Cole slaw, potato or pasta salad, beans & bread, BBQ sauce and Incahoots fries. There is chicken, sausages and Louisiana Hot Links (hot or mild), tri-tip, beef ribs and baby back ribs, all Angus Beef and baby back pork ribs. Nightly specials range from steaks, seafood, chops & prime rib.
