Glassware
Basics
Just as wines are diverse and unique in character and style, so are the wine glasses. Here are a few basics on where a wine will feel at right at home.
Sauvignon Blanc
is best served in a glass with a small bowl, narrow aperture, and long stem.
This design will help convey the mineral and crisp notes of the wine.
Chardonnay
should be served in a glass with a moderately wide aperture and a medium- long
stem to emphasize the wine’s fruit.
Pinot Noir
is best enjoyed in a glass with a round bowl to emphasize its aromas and a narrow
aperture to direct the wine to the edges of the palate where the wine’s
acidity is most acutely perceived.
Cabernet Sauvignon
is best when served in a glass with a large bowl to showcase its intense fruit
characteristics. A large bowl also exposes the wine to more oxygen which can
soften the tannins.
